Deadline at Dawn defies the genre -- a bit. It's NYC, but it's NYC at 4:00 a.m. and it has this really empty feeling, amplified by the fact that it's so clearly shot on a Hollywood soundstage, where everything can be perfectly still and the lights are so controlled.
